Look, I've heard it all before:
I wouldn't carry a gun I can't drop the slide on!
It's a gun, not a crystal vase, dummy!

But this practice really does harm a pistol, any pistol, but especially a 1911-type with a trigger job. The sear engagement is so thin that damage can easily occur. Hammer follows might, well, follow. :)
My own thoughts here? Why do it? When is there a legitimate reason for a shooter to drop the slide on an empty gun? I can't think of one. The folks at Wilson Combat can't either.
